Hisila Yami, the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation in the new government led by NCP (Maoist) says that the Newah Rajya (Autonomous State for Newah indigenous community) will not be possible unless the Newah community in the different political camps join forces to demand the Autonomy for Newah Rajya. She said this at a special reception organized in celebration of the 1129th New Year of Nepal Samvat in Kathmandu by Newah Jagaran Manch, a forum of Newah activists of all political and non-political groups to demand state protection and promotion of Newah culture and indigenous rights in their native land, the Nepal Mandala that comprised 12 districts including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kirtipur etc.
Expressing her delight over the victory of getting the Nepal Samvat recognized by the new Government of Nepal, she said, the Newah community of the past, built a distinguished culture for Nepal. They were the first to fight for ethnic and linguistic rights and multi-party political system for all Nepalese. They joined forces in the struggle against the dictatorial Panchayat and Gyanendra’s one man rule. As a result, “we all got a federal republic Nepal. We have now got Nepal Samvat recognized as the National calendar. But, these achievements can any time be dismantled by the opponents, if we do not remain vigilant and united at times of need. You must stand together to build your own autonomy. You must continue supporting to build a New Nepal, a new Federal Republic of Nepal” said the Minister, who won from Kathmandu’s No.7 electorate in the historical Constituent Assembly election held April this year.
