Sri Lankan President and PM condole Bhante Kumara Kassapa’s death

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Prime Minister DM Jayaratne expressed grief over the sudden demise of Upa Sanghanayaka (Deputy head of community of monks) Kumara Kassapa of Nepal.

In a condolence message, President Rajapaksa while recalling the titles of Viswokeerti Srishasana Shobhana and Vidyalankara Padmabhushana being conferred on Bhante Kassapa by Sri Lanka Amarapura Mahanikaya and Vidyalankara Pirivena has said that his demise has caused loss to both Sri Lanka and Nepal and also to the international Buddhist community.

In a separate condolence message sent by the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Jayaratne, it is stated that most venerable Kumara Kassapa had devoted his time and energy for the propagation of Theravada Buddhism in Nepal and other countries and hailed his contribution to consolidate religious and cultural relations between Sri Lanka and Nepal.
